I turned the front of my vessel. A lovely plank of rippled ash running to the blonde sapwood on one side. It is about a metre in length by 400. I drew on a pattern of arc and radians. Carved a pattern of vee chevrons over the next few days. Tried to turn the back off, but the wood had twisted and turning had changed from tricky to silly. 0ne metre of wood on the faceplate comes past slowly. Thock, thock, thock. I took it off and planed it to form. Went through the grades of abrasive, filled the screwholes, fussed the face a bit more and a coat or four of oil. A clear evening, so it was down to the industrial estate with a broom and a camera to take some photos. Please visit my new web site on

    Hi Nick and Siann

Thanks for the update, as usual your work is impressive.

Life goes on here, we joined the local gym club as aches and pains were taking over and the winter slough needed shaking off.

Am fully booked this summer with my role a coordinator of the Youth Sailing Programme at our Yacht Club, and have to maintain the fleet of Lasers and Vanguards we own.

This winter I bought a partially completed HADRON dinghy and proceed to radically remodell the interior, was challenging, but have tried it out on the water and it works ok. I posted some pics on my facebook page if you want to look at it.

Then we have a mountain of work in the garden as Spring imposed it’s delights and burdens upon us; Kim busy planting and weeding, me attacking the ever-increasing invasion of rogue Blackberry and Holly shoots that threaten to engulf us.

We’ll be over later in the year for a family reunion in Oxford, and probably heading for Southampton to get the ferry again to Santander/Bilbao for a spot of sunshine and relaxed camping..(if we can get hold of a suitable vehicle), so we might get to touch base with you guys then.

My daughter is coming over in June, am happy as she’s the first and its now 3 years since I saw my kids/grandkids….

    Take it easy

    Mike and Kim….
